We live in a world riddled with inconsistency, deceit, war and myth. The media prefers to report on bad news, classrooms are crowded, ignorance is bliss. The simple ability to dream seems to be drowning in a sea of harsh reality. Except, we believe that understanding the world around us is the key to personal peace and satisfaction. It is good to dream, and what's more, it's even better to make dreams come true, too.
All around us are ordinary people, achieving the extraordinary. Men and women cross oceans under their own steam. They run across deserts and climb mountains. Others not so inclined to make themselves incredibly tired might have a talent for writing music that makes people think about their life differently. Millions of us are inspired by films each year, but how many consider how that film was made? Who made it? How did they start out?
DreamChase is born from a love of life, and we're here to work with people who want to make this world a better place. We're not a typical organisation and often choose to start working with people without asking for anything in return. Our aim is to gather together a network of inspirational people, enabling their collective experiences to inspire younger generations to chase their own dreams.
Where did DreamChase come from?
DreamChase is a concept developed by a British guy named Dave Cornthwaite. In 2005 Dave was a 25 year-old graphic designer thoroughly depressed with his nine to five job. Following a snowboarding holiday Dave started longboarding - it's like skateboarding, but with a longer board - in an attempt to replicate snowboarding in a town with no snow, and suddenly his perspective of his hometown changed. He saw it in a different light, from a new angle. He decided to start afresh and go travelling on his board. 22 months later he'd travelled further on a skateboard than anyone else ever had. Since then Dave has become a published author, a public speaker, someone not afraid to think out of the box. He has done other things like going very fast on an Aquaskipper, he founded a clothing label, wrote a book about endurance dating and he paddled the length of Australia's greatest river in the same year he took up kayaking.
During his various adventures Dave asked himself 'why?' more than anyone else did, and that happens a lot. His conclusion always takes him back to how he felt as a graphic designer, when getting up in the morning was a struggle, when he realised he was working because it was easy, because of the paycheque, because there was nothing else to do.
It wasn't just the adventures that counted, it was putting them together and turning what could be a simple holiday into a project that inspired people, brought strangers together, increased knowledge and passion. DreamChase is a natural progression from this, because eventually Dave realised that in between his own projects he wanted a rest, but also wanted to - and more importantly, had the experience to - help others achieve their own dreams.
How does DreamChase keep its head above the surface?
Our motivation isn't to make money. Of course, we all need to survive, but we keep our overheads low and seek to work with our primary clients and projects without charge. In the short-term, we enable these main projects by offering simple services through our Creative department. We do things like design websites, print and logo design, branding consultancy, photography services and video editing and production, so if you like our philosophy why not choose DreamChase Creative for your project, knowing your money isn't only giving you what you need, but will go towards a unique, philanthropic venture, too!
Ultimately, our aim is to be able to do our work 100% of the time, so are seeking corporate partners to negate our need to design things! |
