Lizulu is the most rural of all the schools in Malawi with which AV is associated. It is located in a desperately poor area about 120km from Lilongwe .
Lizulu educates some 1,665 children between the ages of 5 and 17 years, who are drawn from five surrounding villages as well as from a local orphanage and children’s home. The teacher / pupil ratio is at least 1:64 and there are just 14 classrooms, giving an average class size of 118. Many classes are conducted outside.
We are raising funds to convert a local building that was originally built for refugees from the Mozambique Civil War, into four new classrooms that will accommodate over 150 children. This will substantially alleviate the overcrowding at Lizulu.
We have been delighted to receive support from Deepdene School, Hartlepool Round Table and a number of past AV Volunteers.
Funding Required - £10,500
