Current Projects

Our target is to fund an educational project costing up to £10 000 each year in each of the principal countries to which AV sends volunteers. Our strategy is to focus our efforts on one flagship project per country at a time.

  • Our projects focus on the building, extension or upgrading of classrooms and other educational infrastructure . We also invest in items such as desks, books and science equipment, which support a quality education.

  • We currently support projects in five countries in Africa and Asia , with four more countries in the pipeline.

We have identified focus projects in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa and India and are in the process of identifying appropriate projects in Uganda, Thailand, Nepal and Mexico.

  • Our projects enhance the learning environment in rural schools for an outlay of just a few thousand pounds. For just £5000 for example, we can build a new classroom in Africa that will be used by 100 children at a time for up to 50 years!

  • We liaise directly with local “champions” (AV representatives, former volunteers, school principals or community leaders) to ensure that our funds are spent wisely. Each project is overseen by a former AV volunteer, trusted local community member and / or AV’s country representative. The trustees receive regular updates on the progress of each project.
