Since 1994 the AV Foundation has acted as the primary fundraising channel for volunteers with Africa & Asia Venture (AV). A portion of each volunteer’s fee is channeled through the Foundation to help fund the project on which he or she is working. Volunteers raise additional funds by encouraging family and friends to donate to projects that they identify. To date the Foundation has disbursed some £240,000 in total.
More recently the Foundation has sought additional funding from charities, corporates and fundraising events. This has enabled us to support a flagship project in each of the principal countries in which AV operates. Each project is likely to require £5,000 to £10,000 of funding and is designed to significantly improve educational access within the relevant community. Core projects have currently been indentified in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda and India.
In each country the Foundation works with local “champions” - AV’s in-country representatives, community leaders or past volunteers returning to their host communities. This helps us to identify suitable projects, monitor their development and ensure that funds are spent wisely. |
